A strategic technology is the one, which has a potential for significant impact on the enterprise in the next three years. As the time is changing, our priorities and organizations' requirements are also changing; therefore these technologies would directly impact on the organization's long-term plans, programs and initiatives.

Recently, a research firm has described top strategic technologies for the year 2010, which are discussed below:

Cloud computing Services

Cloud computing is a cost-efficient model in which vendors deliver a variety of IT-enabled capabilities to consumers. However, in India, where the technology is still at nascent stage, various vendors are trying to reach the customer's attention. It is expected that the global acceptance for Cloud Computing will grow by an average of 26% in the next four years and will reach about $44.2 billion by 2013 as compared to $17.2 billion today.

The Cloud computing avoids capital expenditure (CapEx) on hardware, software and services of the consumers. On the global front, Dell, VMware, Sun Microsystems (Oracle), IBM, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo are some of the major cloud computing service providers.

Client computing Services

A client is an application or computer system that accesses a remote service on another computer system, known as a server, by way of a network, which fulfills the request from the client. Clients are usually classified as either "fat clients", "thin clients", or "hybrid clients", according to their usage of local storage and processing. Currently, various enterprises have been constructing 5-8 years roadmap for strategic client computing to reduce cost on hardware, deployment and security plans.

Green IT

Green IT refers to environmentally sustainable computing through which a company can enhance its green credentials. The basic fundamentals of the green IT is to cut the use of dangerous materials in the products, maximize energy efficiency of the product and enhance recyclability of non-operational products. The organizations' regular green initiatives include the use of e-documents, reducing travel through video-conferencing and use of less and biodegradable packing material. Further, their carbon management activities and transportation efficiency can help them to reduce energy consumption.

Surge in Mobile applications

It is expected that by the 2010 end, about 1.2 billion people will have Smartphones that are capable of providing web browsing, social networking and other PC like applications. Further, like Apple iPhone, which has thousands of applications that can be downloaded by users from its Apps store, it seems that various vendors will also encash the growing opportunity in mobile application availability.

Data center's Up gradation

A data center is a facility that is used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems. At present, the upgraded data center will have power back up, air cooled environment and plenty of free space for any additions.
